GCTU Launches Basic Laws and Strategic Plan to Achieve the University’s Cooperate Mandate | Education

The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has launch the University’s Basic Laws and Strategic Plan, a formidable document that outlines the university’s vision, mission, core operating values and norms.

The plan was developed through a university-wide effort spanning three months, marked by dedication, passion, insight, and innovation. The plan includes the university’s structure, strategic goals, and objectives, as well as an analysis of the tertiary education environment in Ghana, challenges facing the tertiary education sector, national and regional labour market trends.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa in an interview with Peace FM News said, the Strategic Plan is actually the pivot on which the University turns its strategic actions towards the short and long-term goals.

“It translates the strategic vision and mission into concrete actions that help us to achieve our corporate mandate.”

The 2022-2030 Strategic Plan is built on existing foundations and consolidates the overall 9-year Strategic Plan of the University.

According to him, the strategic plan employs a disciplined approach in support of the on-going developmental initiatives of the University and assists in laying a pathway to the prospects of the University which is firmly rooted on excellence in teaching, learning, research and innovation.

The University is enjoined by good corporate practices to meet strict international standards and conform to regulatory requirements. This is the guiding principle behind the development of the Strategic Plan.

He added that, The GCTU statutes cover a wide range of areas, including the composition and functions of the university’s governing bodies, the appointment and responsibilities of staff members, the assessment and award of degrees, diplomas, and certificates, as well as the award of fellowships, scholarships, bursaries, and prizes.

Additionally, the statutes provide for any matter that is required by the ACT to be prescribed by the statutes.

The statutes, established in accordance with the Ghana Communication Technology University Act, 2020 (ACT 1022), outlines the legal framework that reinforces our institution’s mission to provide innovative, cutting-edge programs that meet the evolving needs of our nation. It also ensures the effective functioning of the university and the maintenance of academic standards ‘’he said’.

The plan he said focuses on twelve (12) thematic goals and objectives to enhance the student experience, improve infrastructure, and promote collaboration with industry partners.

Some key highlights from the document include:
• Enhancement of Academic and Co-curricular Facilities: The strategic plan includes the creation and upgrade of academic and co-curricular facilities. This involves the construction of new lecture theatres, sports and recreational centres, and the development of cultural and drama groups.

• Development of a Strong Multifaceted Student Experience: GCTU aims to provide an enabling environment for students through various initiatives. This includes the promotion of university-wide best practices that encourage collaborative and innovative student engagement.

• Upgrade of ICT Infrastructure: GCTU plans to upgrade its ICT infrastructure to support the growing needs of students and staff.

• Development of policies and operating manuals for the university to regulate all aspects of the university business processes.
