Put Your Ego Aside, Speaker! – Dr. Otchere-Ankrah Scolds Bagbin | Politics

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah has slammed the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for failing to bring unity between the Minority and Majority Caucuses.

Parliament reconvened today but the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs boycotted the House for a second time while the Minority once again occupied their seats which is the majority chamber.

In view of today’s scene in the Legislative House, the Speaker again suspended Parliament sine die because the House did not have the numbers to make decisions.

Commenting on the latest development in the House, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah scolded the Speaker for refusing to recognize the Supreme Court ruling.

He questioned the logic in the Speaker seeking the same court to honor his application to vacate their decision to stay his declaration of four seats as vacant in the House but wouldn’t accept the court’s ruling.

The Speaker’s application was thrown out by the court and Bagbin, who some people thought would restore the House today by ensuring the Majority and Minority Caucuses occupy their respective positions for parliamentary business to resume, rather watched the Minority take over the majority seats again.

Dr. Otchere-Ankrah purported that the Speaker is gradually becoming “power drunk” stating he “enjoys power more than his job and salary”.

He admonished the Speaker to put his “ego aside and work”.

He further advised Bagbin to use his “number 3” position that he so cherishes to bring peace and order in Parliament saying “we have to let cool heads prevail”.

The Governance Lecturer at the Central University made these submissions on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
