NDC Record In Education Is Poor – NAPO | Politics
Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has descended heavily on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of failing woefully to develop the crucial education sector when they were in political office.
He pointed out that the education sector, which is the future of the country, did not experience any meaningful transformation when the NDC stayed in power, so he urged to the electorates to reject the NDC on December 7.
Dr. Prempeh, who is the Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), warned that the massive gains that have been achieved in the education sector under the NPP, would be eroded if the NDC wins power.
“The future of the country is education and the record of NDC in education is poor”, Dr. Prempeh, also known as ‘Napo’ reminded Ghanaians, sternly warning that the NDC posed a serious threat to the education sector.
Speaking at the Fosu Nursing Training College as part of his campaign tour in the Central Region on Friday, Napo urged the electorates to renew the NPPs mandate in the interest of the country and the children, who are the future leaders.
NDC Sins Against Education Sector
Reminding the citizenry of the infamous decisions that the NDC made in government to hurt the education sector, he said “It is the NDC who cancelled the teacher and nursing trainee allowance, with its disastrous effects on affected students”.
Virtually highlighting all the unpardonable things that the NDC did against the education sector, Napo also said the infamous “I won’t give you chalk episode” happened at their time, adding that failure rates in schools also soared under the NDC.
The NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, who is a former Minister of Education, lamented that “over 40,000 school children could not get their results as a result of non-payment of school fees” when NDC was in power.
Napo said time would not permit him to talk about other insensitive things that the NDC did in political office in eight years to jeopardize the education sector, warning that the NDC should not be allowed to get close to power again.
NPPs Positive Records In Education Sector
He reminded the people that the education sector has been rapidly and properly transformed since the President Nana Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government took over political power through better policies and planning.
Napo, who supervised the smooth and successful implementation of the famous free Senior High School (SHS) policy as minister of education, said “the free SHS alone increased enrollment and benefitted every student”.
The free SHS social intervention policy, he explained, doesn’t discriminate against anyone, saying that every school-going Ghanaian child has been benefiting from the policy irrespective of their political, tribal or social backgrounds.
Napo also said there has been “an increase in the enrollment of nursing and teacher trainees despite the payment of their allowance”, saying that the future of the country is education and the NPP are the better managers of that crucial sector so they should retain power.
