We Are Surprised By NDC’s Claim – EC | Elections
The Electoral Commission has expressed surprise by the claim by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the effect that it was the party that notified the Commission about challenges with the serialisation of ballot papers for the Ahafo and Volta Regions.
The Commission wondered why the NDC would have kept such information from the Public, especially when the affected ballot papers were printed for regions that include Volta Region, a region that the NDC considers as its stronghold.
The Commission also drew the attention of the public to the fact that the NDC would usually go to the public first about any issues they have with the electoral process before they air their grievances with the EC, citing the example of a recent media interview by the party’s head of ballot printing, Mr Richard Jakpa.
The Commission is therefore surprised as to why the NDC would have kept this issue from the public domain until Friday, 15th November 2024 when the EC informed the political parties about its decision to reprint the ballot papers for Ahafo and Volta Regions.
The EC firmly asserted that the challenges with serialisation were detected by the EC Team stationed at the said Printing House and also confirmed by the Audit Department of the Commission. The Commission stated that no Political Party, whether formally or informally, notified the Commission about the challenges with serialisation at the Printing House, even though their agents were present throughout the process.
