‘Presidential Results To Be Declared At Collation Centres’ | Elections
The Electoral Commission (EC) says presidential results will be announced at each of the 16 regional collation centres before a final declaration is made at its national headquarters in Accra for the December 7 elections.
Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, made this known at the launch of the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) 2024 Election Day observation and post-election activities in Accra.
He said that all political parties have agreed that their agents will be present at all the polling and collation centres till the end of all the election processes.
He said, “For every constituency, there will be someone assisting with the collation process, and the same applies at the regional level. Under CI 127, regional collation is part of the structure for presidential elections. After results are compiled at polling stations, they will be sent to constituency collation centres, and from there, forwarded to the regional collation centres. At each regional centre, we will announce the presidential results.”
According to him, the change will enhance the transparency of the elections, which will enable electorates track results from one region to the other throughout the process.
Dr. Asare, who said similar approach was successfully implemented during the 2020 elections, further said that though the collation centres will be spacious for all the activities, it will only admit accredited observers and media personnel.
Meanwhile, the EC has launched an online platform for voters to verify their details on the provisional register ahead of the December 7 general election, for voters to verify their details and report any discrepancies found to the district offices for correction.
The online exhibition exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, October 15 to Saturday, October 19, 2024, the EC explained, is part of the Commission’s broader efforts to ensure accurate and clean voters’ register before the final certified voters’ register is published.
