The star, whose career has been cut short by a rare neurological disease, sang an Edith Piaf song, “Hymne l’amour.”

She sang from a high vantage point on the Eiffel Tower. 

The crowd burst out in enthusiastic cheers and applause.

Her appearance was rumoured but was not publicly announced before the Opening Ceremony.
