Pass Lithium Deal for the Betterment of Ghana – Chiefs to MPs | General News

Chiefs in the various Traditional Councils in the Mfantesman Municipality have called on parliament to speed up the process of the lithium deal.

This came to light in the delay in the approval of the lithium mining agreements in parliament in which the chiefs have asked the members of parliament to look beyond politics and speed up the process of approving the mining license.

Speaking in an interview with Peace FM News’s Sally Ngissah, Omanhene of Nkusukum traditional area of Yamoransa, Nana Okese Essandoh IX lauded Atlantic Lithium company for their countless engagements with the Chiefs and people within the beneficiary communities to sensitize and educate them on the settlement and economic impact without hiding anything from them.

This is why parliament needs to ratify the bill fast, he said, and even the Minerals Commission needs to give license to Atlantic Lithium limited to commence the mining of lithium in Ewoyaa.

Omanhene Essandoh IX urged parliament to think about the nation first and focus on the development of Ghana especially the youth, and that there is no doubt that lithium mining is going to bring fortune to the nation and help create jobs which will be beneficial to the nation.

He, therefore, called on the people within the beneficiary communities to exercise patience as they (the chiefs) will fight for their compensation that they deserve.

Omanhene of Abura traditional area of Abakrampa, Emintsinminim Otu XI on his part revealed that the traditional rulers have agreed with the 1% of its revenue to the region which will be used for developmental projects in the region and also to improve the living standards of the local population by investing in basic services, utilities and social amenities.

They further pleaded with the parliament to do away with the partisan politics but rather think of the region’s development and as well as the youth in the country.
