Pastor Urges Citizenry To Respect Electoral Process | Politics
Ahead of the December 7, 2024 general election, the Head Pastor of the ZOE Pentecostal Mission Ghana, Reverend Wisdom Lord Kafui, has called for peace and tolerance among the public.
He urged the citizenry to respect the electoral process and accept the outcome of the elections in order not to jeopardise the peace of the country.
At a lecture series on ensuring peace during and after the election in Accra last Wednesday, Rev. Kafui emphasised the importance of peace and encouraged citizens to vote and return home without violence, stressing that a peaceful environment rather than chaos and anarchy was the building blocks of development.
He said the country’s prosperity and happiness should be the ultimate goal as the nation headed to this year’s election.
Desperation
Rev. Kafui cautioned politicians against desperation for power, reminding them that the goal should be to serve the country, not themselves. He urged the Electoral Commission to fulfil its mandate with integrity to produce the rightful winner.
Rev. Kafui encouraged media houses and journalists to report truthfully, resisting manipulation and eschewing bias. “As Ghana prepares for its election, tensions are high and the country needs a peaceful and united voice,” he said.
Rev. Kafui emphasised that Ghana remained a blessed nation and its citizens should strive to maintain peace and unity. He prayed for God’s guidance and protection, asking for wisdom for the leaders and peace for the nation.
Background
The December general election is seen to be another test for Ghana’s peaceful credentials. In a West African sub-region littered with military takeovers in recent years, Ghana has stood among the countries with an enduring civilian rule system.
Since the country returned to a democratic regime in 1993, the state has gone through eight elections already and four different transitions from a ruling party to a different party.
