NACOC G/A Marks The 2024 World Drug Day at Alogboshie 1 & 2 Basic School In Accra | General News
The Greater Accra Regional Command (GARC) of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) commemorated the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking today June 26, at Alogboshie 1&2 Basic School at Achimota in the Okaikwei North Municipal in Accra.
This global event aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking on individuals and communities.
World Drug Day is observed annually to promote action and cooperation towards a drug-free world. World Drug Day also serves as a reminder and opportunity to renew our commitment to the global fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The day helps highlight the government’s and international partners’ role in supporting the efforts made by people and communities in the global fight against drugs.
This year’s theme, “The Evidence is Clear, Invest in Prevention,” highlights the need for a scientific evidence-based approach to address the complex problem of drug abuse.
During the event, Mr Abdul Aziz Ali, Head of Education at GARC, emphasised the importance of avoiding substance abuse, which can negatively impact students’ education and future ambitions. He also encouraged individuals struggling with Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) to seek professional help, noting that SUDs are chronic brain diseases that require professional assistance
The collaboration between NACOC, schools, and the media is crucial in promoting a drug-free world. By working together, we can make a difference and create a safer, healthier community for all.
