Good Governance Across Africa Should Ensure Rapid Development and Reduce Migration – Defence Minister  | General News


The Minister of Defence, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul says that good governance across Africa will ensure rapid development which ultimately will lead to increased developing jobs for the youth thereby reducing migration. 

According to him, the voices of Africa must be heard on the demand of our people for good governance and the need to respect term limits for every president to respect our democracy. 

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum in Accra, he urged regional, continental, and global institutions to redouble their efforts in developing and supporting strategic initiatives to minimize the challenges. 

The forum on the theme, “Migration and Societal Resilience in a Multipolar World Order: Addressing Conflicts and Building Peace in Africa”, reflects the complex interplay between migration, conflict, and the changing global landscape.

It aims to analyze the root causes of migration, including, poverty, inequality, and conflict as well as examine the impact of migration on security and societal resilience in Africa and explore innovative approaches to address migration challenges, promote peaceful coexistence, and build sustainable solutions.

He further explained that the capacities to address the phenomenon of migration and related challenges will be dependent on establishing government structures that are effective, and responsive that seek to reduce poverty and unemployment, especially among the youth. 

Delegates included representatives of security sector institutions and policy and research think tanks, development partners, training institutions, business leaders and other groups such as journalists, youth activists, and women’s groups.

The Defence Minister urged regional, continental and global institutions to redouble their efforts in developing and supporting strategic initiatives to minimise the challenges.
