Majority Boils Over Leadership | Parliament

Members of the Majority Caucus have denied media reports that they had changed the leadership of the group, stating that they have no such intentions.

On Monday, rumours circulated that Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu would be removed and replaced by his Deputy, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Addressing the media in Parliament, the Majority Caucus, led by the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, indicated that they had not contemplated effecting any change in the leadership of the Majority Caucus.

“We are here to inform you and through you to the world that the publications that are going round are not true. They are false. The Majority Caucus has not made any changes in its leadership or contemplated making any changes to its leadership,” he stressed.

Mr. Osei-Owusu said, “We want to tell the whole world to ignore any such publications. We want to assure you that we are confident in the leadership as they are and the status quo shall remain.”

He, however, recognised that due to the nomination of one of the Deputy Whips as a Minister, a replacement will be required.

“We are aware that upon the nomination of one of the Deputy Whips as a Minister, a replacement will be made,” he stated.

According to the First Deputy Speaker, the Caucus will make that replacement once they have had the opportunity and time to consider the best option.

“The leadership of the Majority Caucus has not changed; we have not contemplated any change,” he intimated.
