2024 Election: NPP Better Off With Running Mate From Ashanti Region – Says Ben Ephson | Politics

Pollster Ben Ephson has said the 2024 presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has a brighter chance going into the upcoming election if he selects a running mate from the Ashanti Region.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) last Saturday (4 November) elected Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate for the 7 December 2024 elections. Bawumia obtained 118,210 votes representing 61.47%, beating his main contender Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a Member of Parliament for Assin Central who obtained 71,996 votes representing 37.41%.

Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie-Akoto garnered 1,459 votes representing 0.76% while Francis Addai-Nimoh polled 781 votes representing 0.41%.Various names have begun popping up as possible running mates to partner Bawumia ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Speaking to Benjamin Offei-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (7 November), Ephson warned that the NPP risks losing some good votes from the Ashanti Region if it selects a candidate beyond the region.

“If Bawumia does not pick somebody from the Ashanti Region, he is going to face a maximum deficit of votes.”

“You must pick somebody that the Ashanti supporters have identified, one of the reasons why Alan Kyerematen failed woefully was his inability for the younger generation in the party to identify with him,” he added.
