SHOWDOWN Presidential Primaries: Dr Bawumia Elected NPP Flagbearer With 61.47%, Ken 35.52% | Politics

The much-talked about, highly-anticipated presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ended with the election and official declaration of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the Presidential Candidate of the ruling party for the 2024 general elections.

As officially announced by the Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, at the Ohene Gyan Sports Stadium in Accra, Dr Bawumia emerged triumphant when he secured 61.47% of the valid votes, polling 118,210 votes out of 193,339 cast.

This win marks a historic moment in the party’s political journey, as Dr Bawumuia becomes the first person from the Northern part of the country to lead the NPP, a party deeply rooted in the ‘Danquah-Dombo-Busia’ ideals.

In the highly competitive flagbearership race, Ken Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central came second with 71,996 votes representing 35.52%.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto came third with 1459votes, while Francis Addai-Nimoh placed fourth 781 votes.
