NHIA Commiserates With Volta Region Flood Victims | General News


Executive Management of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has commiserated with victims of the extreme flood necessitated by the Volta River Authority (VRA), spillage of the Akosombo Dam in the Volta Region.

Over 200 communities along the lower Volta Lake in the North, South, and Central Tongu districts have been submerged.
 
Thousands of residents including staff of the National Health Insurance Schemes (NHIS), children and the aged have been rendered homeless and are seeking refuge in safe havens.
 
The victims lost their NHIS membership cards, Livestock, farmlands, and other properties worth millions of cedis.
 
The NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye on October 25, 2023, sent a team from the head office to the affected communities to assess the situation on the ground.
 
Reacting to the team’s risk assessment report, Dr. Okoe-Boye said executive management shared in the pain of the victims.
 
He called for special attention and unwavering support for the victims, whose dreams have been shattered.
 
He commended the government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and philanthropists for the rapid response to the victims predicament.  

According to Dr. Okoe-Boye, the NHIA Governing Board and management will in accordingly galvanize support for the flood victims.
