EPA Sets 3-Member Team After Shama Quarry Explosion | General News

The Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu has disclosed that a 3-member committee has been set to look into the cause of the explosion at a quarry site at Kobenandohkrom in the Shama District.

The explosion killed four persons and left many injured. Some night workers, believed to be Chinese and Ghanaian nationals, were burnt, while others, including the managing director (MD) of the company, are still missing.

Those who survived were rushed to the various hospitals in the district and Sekondi.

The EPA boss speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ said apart from the committee set by REGSEC, the Agency’s internal monitoring system has put together a 3-man team to scrutinize and investigate their monitoring strategies with particular reference to the Western Region.

“We need to find out whether our monitoring system is working efficiently. What went wrong as far as the quarry site is concerned…” he said.
